The RUSSCO Safety Electric Vehicle Battery Chargers provided low cost, small size, and light weight on-board charging of both flooded and sealed lead acid battery systems of 72 to 156 volts. The battery chargers operated off standard 120 VAC. The RUSSCO Model SC18-120/72-156 drew 1800 watts from a 20 amp service, and the Model SC30-120 DSO/72-156 drew 3000 watts from a 30 amp service.
The RUSSCO Chargers provided two stage charging with adjustable constant current to 80% charge, adjustable constant voltage, then minimum current to finish. An automatic shut off (SO) option, available in analog or digital versions, shut off the charger when the battery was fully charged. The RUSSCO two stage Chargers were ideal for flooded batteries. The Model SC30-120 DSO had timed digital shut off standard.
A Three Stage (3S) Charger option provided adjustable constant current to 80% charge, adjustable constant voltage, then third stage adjustable constant current with timed digital shutoff. The RUSSCO Three Stage Chargers were recommended for sealed batteries.
Convenience features included external line cord and booster transformer connections, prewired DC cord terminating in a 50 A Anderson connector and easy front panel adjustments for AC current and DC battery voltage taper. A built-in ammeter monitored DC Battery Current.
Safety features included an on/off toggle circuit breaker with ground fault circuit interrupt protection, power-on indicator, AC line circuit breaker protection, DC fused output, electronically regulated AC line current limit, soft-start up, overtemp protection, and fan cooling. A high power factor with low crest factor lowered AC line peak current while increasing line current duty cycle, reducing AC line heating and lowering radio/TV interference.
Battery packs of 84 V to 120 V could be charged without a boost transformer. The chargers were expandable down to 72 V and up to 156 V systems with an optional boost transformer.
RUSSCO Safety Electric Vehicle Chargers were warranted for one year.
